When I first found out about the earthquake in Haiti I was in pure shock. This is a country that is very poor by all means. People usually don't take action unless it affects them directly. But guess what this is our people and it does affect us DIRECTLY!!! I am extremely proud of the 16-32 age group for all the efforts made to lend a helping hand from quickly setting up events where donations can be made and urging others of what foundations they can support and donate to. Haitian artist Wyclef Jean has been an advocate for Haiti forever and if you are not aware he has a foundation called "Yele Haiti". You can help out right from your phone and it only takes 2 seconds. All you have to do is text "Yele" to 501501 and a $5 donation will be charged to your phone bill. Some of us spend more than that on breakfast or lunch alone. Also The American Red Cross is accepting donations. They have already pledged an initial $200,000 toward relief efforts.
I'm also very proud of President Obama for acting so quickly and being the first to offer Haiti any kind of help. Gotta love that man! . According to CNN, as of 3pm today The US Coast Guard has mobilized ships and air crafts to positions where they can be quickly sent to Haiti if needed. I know there are many Haitians that live in the U.S. that are sick with worry and anticipation for loved ones in Haiti. You can call the State Department line to check on loved ones at 1-888-407-4747.
The more information I get about relief efforts and events to give donations I will be placing it on the blog, so check back periodically.
PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO HELP!!!
