6 Months Natural Anniversary

Hey Lovely Divas,

Today I make 6 months completely natural and I'm astonished at how much my hair has changed. I've been that girl with really thin hair. I think a lot of that was poor maintenance. Since going natural I see my hair growing in the way it was when I was a child B.R (Before Relaxers). Its thick, and full, and soft...OMG I just love it!

I can say it is a lot to maintain but it is well worth it. I rarely wear my natural hair out. I like to keep it in protective styles such as wearing wigs. Today I felt like being free and just wear it out. I wondered to myself if people think I'm bald because I'm always wearing wigs, lol. But clearly I'm not. I'm just maintaining the health of my strands.

So I'm going to continue moisturizing, conditioning, and taking my vitamins to get continued growth!

Let's see where it'll be in one year. In the meantime I will keep you all posted here.

Smooches!!

In relationships do you think people can change for the better?

Change can be a good thing; change can be a bad thing; and most importantly change can be a much necessary thing! But my question is, in relationships do you think people can actually change?

There have been many times that I've heard the saying, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" and I know most of you have heard it too. Does that mean we are not allowed to forgive people for mistakes? Yes mistakes should only happen once technically but not one person is perfect. Haven't you made questionable mistakes in your life that you regret and just wished someone would forgive you? If so than we all have transgressions that we are not proud of its what changes you make to correct those faults.

Now back to relationships, let's just say they can bring you the best feelings imaginable and the worst all at the same time. Can anyone say roller-coaster? When a partner has wronged you in the past do you think it's possible to forgive them? You have some women who never forgive; one strike and you're out! Then you have those who forgive too much; those are doormats. Don't get me wrong I believe in forgiving and that people can change but most times we woman want men to change when we want them to. Unfortunately it doesn't work that way but that doesn't mean they can't change it just has to be when they are ready to. You'll hear the words used over and over again, "baby I'm gonna change, I'm sorry" and that B.S! I say it's B.S because until you can actually sit down and articulate your issue, why you do the things you do to damage the relationship, admit fault and give examples on how you've changed then you haven't. If you can do that it will give your partner a chance to clearly decide on whether to believe you have changed and to forgive you. I believe everyone should be forgiven, that doesn't mean forget. It just means to forgive and move on. Now you can move on without that person or decide to move on with that person and rebuild and trust again. And that person has to realize that they are to earn that trust back it's not just given.

Therefore let's stop being so harsh on people and communicate better. But if you honestly feel that that person is not ready to change then walk away. Don't sit in it thinking they are going to change for you. They only change when they have realized the mistakes they've made. Some people its pretty quick and others take longer to realize. But they eventually do, the question is will you be around to see it!

Natural Beauty Look

So I've been wearing a really toned down look when it comes to makeup lately. Most of it has to do with it being too hot to cake on makeup and the other part of it is I just don't want to look overdone all the time. Plus I must admit I've fallen absolutely in love with my lip combo in this look (Turkish Delight + Make Me Pink). I DIE!!!!

If you want to see how I got this look and what products I used check out my video here!

Beyonce "4" Album Review

Let me preface this by stating that I have been a Beyonce Fan since Destiny's Child days singing "No,No,No" from the fast version to the slow version. With this 4 album its her release from the chains of Papa Knowles and a sense of independence of Mrs. Beyonce Knowles-Carter. I must admit when I first heard the album it took me a while to find some favorites unlike other Beyonce projects where songs stood out to me in the first listen. I'm just being honest. One thing is for sure Bey knows how begin the promo for a new album releasing 3 completely different type of songs consecutively. Her lead single "Run The World" was controversial from the start because people were already familiar with "Pon de Floor" by Major Lazer. Some were just dead set against liking it and others were steady bumping it and praising it as the beginning of Queen Bey's Reign aka Bey Season.

I must say "1+1" is a beautiful ballad accompanied by sound of strings and piano. I like the fact that there aren’t any signs of heavy drums just the rawness of her voice. You can almost feel Bey’s heart pour out in the lyrics, “and I don’t know when I’m gone die but I hope that I’m gone die by you, hey, I don’t know much about fighting but I, I know I will fight for you”. You can pretty much expect the same flow for "I Miss You". It's a universal track which makes it unique. It can relate to a loved one or a lost one which will resonate with most. However the lyrics are really just repetition but it works for the sound achieved. Don’t look for powerful vocals belting on this track. Take it for what it is and let it flow.

We all know Beyonce has never been the type to speak candidly about her personal life or gush about her marriage to rapper Jay Z but if you listen to "Rather Die Young", "I Care", and "Start Over" you'll find out all you need to know. This album may be Beyonce speaking not as a single girl or girlfriend but as a wife. Marriage can be a roller coaster with good times and bad times where you're going to argue and bicker. I believe in "I Care" she touches on that. It also has that live band sound that I could only imagine how it would sound performed in concert. Using her words Beyonce expresses her love for her husband in "Rather Die Young" with all the risks it might have been. If there’s any question if Bey is the “ride or die” type let’s just say she would never leave her man hanging out there. "Start Over" to me feels like the soundtrack of the album. Grown woman Bey is showing growth and happiness. Don't expect any divorce papers being signed she clearly sends the message of not giving up in relationships and opening up the idea of starting over. Relationships have cycles where at times you may not be on the same page but that’s when you decide to make it work and that's exactly what she belts out singing “let’s start over, We can’t let our good love die, Maybe we can start over, Give love another life”.

There are some songs that kinda left me in limbo. "Love On Top" takes me back to the 80's or early 90's of R&B. Keeping it classy with a live band sound accented with drums and saxophones.  "End of Time" sounds a bit like "Run The World" with similar production with the percussion's just its a slower pace. It brings a feel of mixture between 1990's and 2011 with an indescribable genre. The only song on the album that has a feature is "Party"with Kanye West and Andre 300. The song is sampled from Dough E Fresh and Slick Ricks "La Di Da Di". It's a real mellow song although I don't think it would be single even though Andre 300 sounds great on anything.

Now down to my favorites! One thing Beyonce has the ability to do is relate to women all over whether you're the girl searching for love, in love, or over love. I would have to say "Best Thing I Never Had" is the female version of Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now" in a sense. Singing to an ex "thank God you blew it, I thank God I dodged a bullet, I'm so over you so baby good lookin out" and closing each chorus with "sucks to be you right now" making it the ultimate break up cleansing song. Now "Countdown" would be my favorite track on the entire album. Even though Bey claims she killed Sasha Fierce in 2010 I hear glimpses of her in this song. With her quick Destiny's Child style singing laced with a slight flow that I'm sure was rubbed off by her famous husband makes this a great track and hopefully a single. This also may be one of the few upbeat songs on the track list besides "Run This World". You can hear a more vulnerable side of Beyonce in "I Was Here
As a person who has purchased all 3 of her solo projects and 7 Destiny's Child albums I can say its very different. If I had to compare it to any of her other albums it would possibly be Dangerously In Love but a 2.0 version. I see more growth, vulnerability, and independence. I remember the days when Bey would never curse on a track, now she cussin in songs. It is different than what most Beyonce fans would probably expect from her but it is a more mature grown up Beyonce. I wouldn't call it a dance album, a pop album or even a R&B album. It's more like a gumbo of genres!

The Future of R&B Male Groups....#DivaStamp

I had the pleasure of Guest Co-hosting on Urbanlatinoradio.com with Pretty Lou and the Front Stage Radio team a few months back and I was introduced to this R&B group Gotham Citi. These guys came in the studio with so much energy and not to mention they had the chat room going crazy with female fans. With me never hearing their music I really didn't know what to expect, but I will tell you this...I wasn't expecting to hear what I heard. These guys sound AMAZING in person! Better than most of these big name people They way they harmonize gave me goosebumps. Here's some footage of them acapella.

She's Pretty For a Dark Skinned Girl.....

I just hate it when I hear "Oh she's pretty for a dark skinned girl". What is that supposed to insinuate that dark skinned girls can't be considered beautiful? Society has the perception that light skin, long hair, colored eyes is the only thing that can be considered beautiful. It makes my stomach turn.

I found this video that I think everyone should watch, take in, and learn from. I love my brown skin and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Mascara is a MUST...so which one is BEST??

When I leave the house if I don't have any makeup on I atleast have to wear mascara. I guess you can say that is one of my main makeup staples. Anywho, what women wouldn't want full, flirty, lashes? Isn't that the reason we pay soo much get falsies put on?

I don't wear false lashes so I'm always on the hunt for a mascara that's going to make my lashes look longer, fuller, and just super flirty. I did a short video of my three favorite mascaras. I hope this helps you on your hunt for those perfect lashes without falsies.

April MakeUp Haul

Anyone who knows me knows I have become completely addicted to anything involved with beauty and hair regime. Well lately I have been dabbling a bit more in makeup. I'm talking using the right brushes for the right applications, the art of contouring and highlighting, etc. This is due to the fabulous ladies I subscribe to on Youtube. They have literally taught me soo much more about makeup that I could have ever learned during my time at beauty school.

Because of my free time that I have now I am constantly trying new looks with makeup. I must be doing something right because I get lost of compliments on the finished product. So with all that said I decided to do a makeup haul on some of the beautiful colorful things I've picked up over the past couple of weeks.

Make Up Forever HD Foundation   $40

I absolutely love this foundation. I've been using Make Up Forever's liquid HD Foundation in 177 for about 2 years now and I refuse to use anything else. I just love the way it gives me a flawless finish especially when I look back at pictures I've taken when wearing it. It doesn't feel thick or heavy at all and it's oil free which is a major plus for me since I have oily skin. It is a bit pricey but I must say it's well worth it. I can never go into a drug store and get foundation becuase I'm the type of person who needs assistence when picking a shade. And let's face it nobody in Rite Aide, CVS, or Walgreens is going to help you match your shade in foundation. It's just not going to happen!

Mac Samples:
Oil Control Lotion Moisturizer  $29.50
Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone   $19.50

So the other day I went to the Mac store in the Westchester Mall and I wanted to find out how can I control my makeup from looking soo oily throughout the day. The store manager Michelle actually assisted me and she began to ask me what moisturizer do I use. Bashfully enough I kinda replied with a "I just use Vitamin E oil". She explained to me that although Vitamin E oil is very nourishing it would better if I used it at night as a treatment and get an oil free moisturizer. So she gave me a sample of their Oil Control Lotion. She then began talking to me about primers. I had bever used a primer on my face before. Michelle also did me the pleasure of making a sample of their Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone primer to control the my oily T-Zone. When I got home and used the Prep + Prime Skin Refined Zone primer I noticed how it instantly becomes dry but not a flaky dry, sort of like a smooth dry. And it did notice how it allowed my foundation to go on even more smooth with no signs of an oily T-zone. Mission Accomplished!

Mineralize Skinfinish Natural   $27
Studio Finish Concealer  $16.50

While I was in the Mac store I was also interested in getting a setting powder to go over my foundation. I explained to Michelle that I didn't want to look too matte, ofcourse not skiny, but have a nice glow. So she suggested I get the Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Dark. When she put it on me I aboslutely loved it. Previously I was using my Stila bronzer and I just wanted a lil less bronzy so this was perfect. As for the concealer, I usually don't wear concealer. My foundation gives me perfect cover becuase I don't really have dark circles. However I love Kim Kardashian's undereye makeup and how it just looks soo illuminiscent and I wanted that look. So the trick is to get a concealer in 2 shades lighter. So I got the Studio Finish concealer in NC50. So with the combination of the Mineralized Skinfinish and the Studio Finish concealer I have an illuminiscent glow.

Lustre Lipstick "Fresh Brew"   $14.50
Lip Pencil "Chestnut" & "Cork"  $13
I'v been on the search for a really good nude lipstick for women of color. After watching a couple youtube videos I found one referred by MakeupD0LL. So without even going to a MAC counter I went online and ordered the Lustre Lipstick in Fresh Brew and 2 Lip Pencils in Chestnut and Cork. Most women don't take the time to line thier lips but the extra 2 minutes really makes a difference especially if you have small lips like mine. Ohh and I only got 2 lip pencils because I wasn't sure which one was going to look best with the lipstick. The trick is to get the lip pencil closest to the color of the skin around your lips. It will blend better.

What are some makeup tricks you'd like to share?

Just Me...

Anyone who knows me is aware of my love for wigs and weaves. I just love to switch it up. I usually wear lace front wigs. They are just soo much fun without having to actually wear my hair out. But I've done soo much research on how to care for my hair that I've been inspired to just go natural. It's sort of a natural progression due to the fact that I haven't relaxed my hair since June 2010. To me it just didn't make sense to put the chemical in my hair anymore since I was wearing wigs.

It's been a week and I'm still sporting my own hair and I love it! Now I know what natural wearers means when they say it's a freeing experience. I just get up and go. Now don't be confused I didn't do the BC "Big Chop". Instead I've decided to transition. Most people don't transition because its a lot of work and maintenence. I reguarly trim my a hair so I figure in a couple months most of the relaxed hair will be gone.

In the meantime for the next 4 months I will be experimenting with twist outs, braid outs, and perm rods. When it gets a bit longer I will try flexi rods. My ultimate hair goal is BSL "bra strap length". I'm prepared and understand that this is a journey.

What do you think of my natural look?

H&M Online Shopping in USA

When I found out that H&M was finally opening up shopping online to USA customers I was beyond excited. I love finding cute, trendy pieces at H&M. The only problem I had was if you saw something you liked one week, the next week it's not guaranteed to still be there. Items sell out so fast in the stores. Also, some stores get things that other don't. Now with the online store I'm sure it will have everything up there and I'll be able to get things that I wouldn't have otherwise. Online shopping is expected to up 2011/2012, so I'm thinking 4th quater. Can't wait!
In the meantime, I went to the website to check out what's in stores and found this super cute dress.

The Game "Parachutes...Beach Chair...Review

The Game Season 4

Episode 1 "Parachutes...Beach Chair..."

Hey Divas,

I think it was pretty cool to see that Derwin has moved up from rookie to rising star to multi-million dollar wide receiver, franchise player Derwin Davis. Derwin to me pretty much stayed to who he is it seems like but then again it's only the first episode.

What is going on with Malik and Kelly this season? I don't get it! What has Kelly become? Is this what happens when you go through a bitter divorce. Be careful what you ask for. With her new reality show I'm taking she the Shaunie O'Neal of the Football World. No offense Shaunie! I was also kind of confused as to why they got a new Britt-Bratt. I mean the show takes place two years later and it's actually been two years. They could have kept the same Birtney. This new Britney looks too old, she's too sassy, and I just don't like it. Send it back, LOL!

As for Malik he's just a hot ass mess. I mean he's always been arrogant but its ridiculous now. He's sleeping with the majority owner for San Diego Sabers wife, he's ruining his friendship with Tee Tee, oh and let's not forget he's injured now and his not the franchise player anymore.

Jason Pitts is more of an ass than ever. Now that he's divorced and I'm sure we'll be seeing

plenty groupies by his side. What I don't like is the bitter back & forth fights between him and Kelly. It's been two years already. Ugh! I hope this foolishness doesn't last long in the season.

Last night we also got to see Terrence J from 106 & Park make his debut on the show as Dante playing Tasha Macks' new young thang that could lead to something serious. The verdict is still out on that.

Janay is of course in the picture because of DJ. Yes Melanie is a wife now and a stepmother to baby DJ. I'm not going to front for the past two years I was debating if that baby was actually Derwins. But on the other hand I don't necessarily think Melanie should have given DJ a paternity test. It wasn't her place. Now after relaying in-accurate information to Derwin is she going to fess up and tell Derwin the truth? Damn Med School!

I'm excited to see what happens next.

Be sure to check out The Game, Tuesdays, 10pm on BET.

Topic of the Week: Do you have to play games to make a relationship work?

Last weekend on my show the "Topic of the Day" was: Do you have to play games to make a relationship work? And from what people tweeted and Facebooked in and told us was NO! I think when people play games it may be for a lot of different reasons. You have 1.) They use it as a safety mechanism so they don't get hurt. 2.) They don't know what they want. 3.) They try to weed out the phonies and fakes.

Take the first example, they use it as a safety mechanism so they don't get hurt. Some people have been hurt so many times that they don't know how to perceive others. It's so often that people play so many games that they mess with a persons head that can damage their relationships in the future. Leading them to have insecurity issues, lack of trust, fear of commitment, etc. Then you have, they don't know what they want. Those people are just a bowl of confusion but they don't know it so they get other people all mixed up in their drama. Instead of being upfront with a person about what your intentions are they try to hide them by playing silly games. No one benefits from it and it can lead to too many emotional casualties. Last but not least is the, weeding out the phonies and fakes! I want to say that this can be a positive way to play games but I'd be lying to myself. When this happens its sort of like a game of elimination and the person who survived all the shenanigans is the one who truly wants to be with you. Sick and kind of twisted maybe but for some folks it works for them. Think about it, nobody is going to stick it through with someone unless they really want to be with them. It's the people who only wanted to possibly use that person for something that leave. My question is though, how do you know how long to keep the games going until you're just left all alone playing by yourself. What about when that person has proved themselves, do the games continue?

If you ask me being upfront is the best way to be in a relationship. My mother always told me, "start every relationship the way you want to finish it." Meaning, be upfront with your feelings and expectations in a partner. Don't be a push over because you feel like if you say something the relationship will be over. If that's the case the relationship wasn't much to begin with.

Happy New Year Divas!

I can't believe it's we're here in 2011. Well I'm so glad that most of you stuck around to keep up with me and are even interested or entertained by what I do whether it be my radio show, writing about relationships, or just talking about fashion and beauty finds. Thank You!

In this year I plan on doing more with the radio show. Hopefully adding some video components to the site so you can get to know me a lil bit better because let's face it, everything has to have video now.

So stay tuned and keep watching because I have a feeling things are just about to start getting crazy!
